I want my MTV… Movie Awards: Will you be watching?

This Sunday the MTV Movie Awards nominees will be battling out for that coveted golden popcorn.  If you’re anything like me, you’re a fan of “pictures” (I overheard a sweet older woman refer to movies as “pictures” the other day) and you’ll be tuning in to MTV at 9pm to watch the fanfare.

In addition to the regular categories such as Movie of the Year (I’m pulling for “Bridesmaids”) and Breakthrough performance, there are five new categories to check out:   Best Music, Best On-Screen Transformation, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, Best Cast and Best On-Screen Dirtbag. Yes, you read that right- Best On-Screen Dirtbag.

America!! #MemorialDay

Got Beach Sprays? Don’t forget to protect your hair color from the sun

Memorial Day weekend is upon us (can’t believe it already!)  And as we pray for some sun here in NYC, most of us are gearing up for a little BBQ and R&R either at the beach, the pool or even our rooftop.  We all know by now to protect your skin from the sun however what about your hair and scalp?

In 1975, Mr. Patrick Alès, the founder of Phyto, created his first product to protect the hair from the sun, salt water and chlorine: Phyto Plage Oil.

Throughout the late 70’s and early 80’s, American stylists discovered the unusual looking gold can in France and began to smuggle it back with them to the U.S. in their suitcases. Upon their return to the states, they experimented with the oil and found it to be a great styling tool on all types of hair. The little tin can was the “hot” product to have, thus paving its way to the U.S. in 1989.

Still as popular as ever, PhytoPlage L’Orginale Beach Spray is now found in a sleek and bold aluminum spray bottle. A tried and true remedy in a chic bronzy hue bottle, the spray is the perfect beach accessory for protecting the hair and scalp against environmental stresses and preserving color-treated hair.

But what’s inside you may ask?  Boasting an anti-UVB polymer and other NATURAL UV filters, it is ideal for weakened hair and extreme sun exposure.  Olive extract is known for its protective, hydrating and nourishing properties. Hair will be hydrated, full of shine and color will not fade or tarnish. Calendula, willow and rosemary extracts add additional moisturizing and softening properties while castor oil imparts shine and radiance. Used worldwide, the spray allows the stylist to achieve supreme styling power.

Another option is the Phyto Plage Sun Veil  which is lighter beach spray if you’re just spending a few hours out in the sun going to lunch, playing tennis or chasing the kids around!  Ideal for natural hair, the veil protects, hydrates, and nourishes hair. (UV filter, extract of sunflower, mahwa butter, white lotus extract, sweet almond).

Lastly, one of my favorite scented beach sprays (think coconuts) is the Sedu Beauty Beach Spray   Most sea salt sprays are sticky but this one contains jojoba oil to hydrate while texturize.  As the description says, it truly is sexy beach hair in a bottle.  And the best thing is that it’s affordable at $12.99!  *Note* this spray does NOT contain UV filters.

So while you hit the beach this weekend don’t forget throw your beach spray in your tote.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone!

Let’s also take this time to thank our amazing service men and women around the world. If you’re in NYC say hello and thanks in person. Go Fleet Week!

Make everyday Earth Day w @phytohaircare & @nature_org and help Plant a Billion Trees w/Phytopolleine #GoGreen

Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd.  But instead of just “going green” on this one day, why not make everyday Earth Day?

Give your hair and scalp a little pampering and help the endangered Atlantic Forest in Brazil by purchasing a limited edition Phytopolleine.  Starting today, this 100% essential oil scalp treatment is available by botanical hair care brand PHYTO and will support The Nature Conservancy’s “Plant a Billion Trees” campaign.

The limited edition Phytopolleine universal scalp elixir, which retails for $32, will be sold in a reusable and recyclable pouch.  Available in more than 750 salons throughout the US, PHYTO will contribute $2 to The Nature Conservancy for reforestation efforts in the Atlantic Forest by planting and restoring two trees.  Additionally, PHYTO’s nationwide professional salon network will offer special in-salon treatment days to boost fundraising efforts throughout the remainder of 2012. Each treatment day will consist of complimentary hair and scalp analysis and hair and scalp treatments given by top PHYTO experts and stylists.

To kick-off this initiative, PHYTO and The Nature Conservancy will host a fundraising cocktail party on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Phyto Universe, Phyto’s flagship location in Manhattan.  The spa, located at 715 Lexington Avenue, features a 3,000 square foot wall of live plants encompassing the philosophy of both PHYTO and The Nature Conservancy.  From 6-9pm, top NYC hair stylists will offer guests $20 blowouts (yes!) complimentary hair and scalp analysis, special discounts and more.

Some facts courtesy of The Nature Conservancy:

Centuries ago, the Atlantic Forest covered nearly 330 million acres, an area roughly the size of the eastern seaboard of the United States. Today only 7 percent remains, much of which is in isolated fragments. Home to 130 million people, the Atlantic Forest has taken heavy hits from urban expansion, coastal and industrial development, agriculture, ranching and illegal logging. Despite the forest’s diminished state, 70 percent of Brazil’s population relies on it for its drinking water.

The Nature Conservancy and a team of local, international, public and private partners have launched this ambitious campaign to plant a billion trees by 2015. To accomplish this, they will:

Reforest degraded lands by planting one billion native trees

Create forest corridors to protect, connect and buffer forested areas

Establish and strengthen private and public protected areas

Promote legal incentives and conservation easements to secure protection of privately owned lands

Provide technical assistance for private landowners reforesting their lands

Restore or preserve 30 million acres of rainforest by 2015

The eco-friendly Phytopolleine, a 100% essential oil scalp treatment, is .84 ounces and packs in 4lbs of plants.

What it does:  This formula harnesses the natural powers of rosemary, sage, cypress, eucalyptus, and lemon to instantly purify the scalp and catalyze microcirculation. It is recommended for those suffering from an unbalanced scalp whether it is dry, oily, itchy, or irritated. A fortifying boost sensitive, weak, anemic hair, it serves as an ideal preparation for thinning hair treatments such as Phytocyane and Phytoaxil®.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:

- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
